I'm sure that the introduction of persistent storage will increase adoption of the EC2 platform as it adds another layer of flexibility. I've signed up for the beta, but in case you're wondering what it should offer when relased then here's the high level overview from the news release:
- persistent storage volumes
- volumes exist independently from any Amazon EC2 instances
- behave like raw, unformatted hard drives or block devices
- snapshot ability
- size from 1 GB to 1 TB
- multiple volumes may be attached to a single instance
- designed for high throughput, low latency
This all looks great to me and I look forward to giving it a try when released!
